"You have to be lonely to be a writer."
—

Edna O’Brien, adding to our running archive of writers on writing. (via explore-blog)

No.

This is the biggest crock of nonsense that I’ve ever seen cooked up. When are we going to give up this whole, bruised, battered tortured artist bullshit?

You can be happy and be a writer.

You can have good parents and come from a great family and still be a painter.

You can be in a healthy relationship and still be a musician.

Good God, people. Why do we glamorize hurt? And look at this quote, it lacks substance, it means nothing.

People that hurt, would love to not hurt. People that are lonely, would love to feel loved.

So when they are loved, do they lose their writing ability? When they feel well, do they lose their artistic talent? That’s silly.

Hey kids, it’s okay to be happy.

So fuck this..

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE LONELY TO BE A WRITER.

Mark Twain’s Study.
His description:
“It is the loveliest study you ever saw…octagonal with a peaked roof, each face filled with a spacious window…perched in complete isolation on the top of an elevation that commands leagues of valley and city and retreating ranges of distant blue hills. It is a cozy nest and just room in it for a sofa, table, and three or four chairs, and when the storms sweep down the remote valley and the lightning flashes behind the hills beyond and the rain beats upon the roof over my head—imagine the luxury of it.”
